Working Group 2021-3 just published their report – Join the discussion on May 20!

Our 2021-3 Working Group just published their report!

Medium Voltage (MV) overhead and underground networks are crucial for the performance of an electrical energy system. As linear assets distributed across the entire territory covered by a Distribution System Operator (DSO), they present significant management challenges. These networks also represent a substantial portion of the CapEx and OpEx for a DSO.
One of the primary responsibilities of a DSO is to manage these assets to ensure the network is safe, resilient, and provides a reliable level of service. To achieve this effectively and efficiently, DSOs need:
  • Detailed asset condition data
  • An understanding of each asset’s importance to network resilience
  • Insights into how the assets interact
  • Advanced tools for optimal life cycle management (considering costs, performance, and risks)
CIRED established a working group dedicated to the life cycle management of underground and overhead lines. The recently concluded report—developed with input from DSO and industry experts—addresses best practices and methodologies for asset and risk management of overhead lines and underground cables.

WG on flexibility – final report

We are happy to inform you that the final report of the Working Group on “Network planning and system design with flexibility” is now available. The Working Group first defined the scope of flexibility and studied its integration at all planning scales, from short to long-term and local to global flexibility. Through the analysis of worldwide use cases, several outcomes have been driven and led to eight recommendations.
